Broadcast And Technical Coordinator

Pittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Broadcast and Technical Coordinator in the Department of Communication. Broadcast and Technical Coordinator assists Communication faculty in the strategic operation, advancement, and innovation of the universitys broadcast and media production systems, primarily live-event sports production, to ensure reliable, high-quality delivery of live and recorded content. The position serves as the universitys technical expert for broadcast infrastructure and media systems, and is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced production workflows. This role requires exercising independent professional judgment in developing solutions, managing complex live productions, and making real-time technical and operational decisions that directly affect the institutions public image and communication reach.

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Support 40%

Provide leadership and oversight for the universitys broadcast and media technology infrastructure supporting production facilities, including audio and video studios, editing suites, and broadcast control rooms. Oversee the operation, maintenance, and upgrade schedules for broadcast equipment, including production switchers (currently Vizrt Tricasters), routing systems, encoders/decoders, audio consoles, automation/playout systems, and windows editing computer systems. Use independent judgment and on-the-spot technical decisions during live productions to maintain broadcast integrity. Ensure timely delivery and stable livestream connectivity and reliable signal transport for student broadcasts of athletic events, performances, and special events, both on- and off-campus. Work varying and necessary hours to accomplish assigned projects, oversee support personnel as appropriate, and to operate various types of technical equipment before, during, and after productions. Design, develop, and test broadcast and media technology systems to improve performance and reliability. Support university-wide media and communication needs as identified by the Dean.

Equipment Management 40%

Develop and maintain an inventory of technical assets; create, evaluate, and update an equipment lifecycle schedules, identify and make appropriate upgrades, and introduce appropriate and up-to-date integrations. Research, recommend, and implement fiscally responsible purchases of new technology to enhance instructional and broadcast operations. Serve as a liaison with vendors, suppliers, and community media partners for procurement, troubleshooting, and technical support.

Mentorship and Training 15%

Provide mentorship and training to faculty and students on safe and effective use of broadcast and production equipment. Mentor students in current and appropriate broadcast and production techniques, equipment, and real-time production strategies. Stay current with emerging technologies in broadcast, IP-based workflows, streaming, and media production.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent One year experience in electronic technology, broadcast engineering, computer science, or a related field One year experience with computer operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
